Research Scientist, University of Texas at Austin
Dr. Froning is an observer and instrumentalist with interests in stellar and exoplanet astrophysics and the construction of UV/OIR imagers and spectrographs for ground and space-based observatories. She is the PI of the Mega-MUSCLES Treasury Survey, a HST large program to characterize the energetic irradiation environment in low-mass stars and the effects of X-ray/UV flux on exoplanet atmospheric heating and photochemistry, as well as the potential for the formation and maintenance of life. Dr. Froning is also involved in next-generation instrumentation, acting as the project manager for the Local Volume Mapper instrument for SDSS-V and the GMACS multi-object spectrograph for the Giant Magellan Telescope.
